Custom Components Company Announces New Project Award - UCSD Biomed – San Diego, CA



Custom Components Company announces the award of a new project in San Diego, CA, UCSD Biomed.  The new $105 million project is a 196,000 sq. ft., five-story Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility on a 3.3 acre site within the School of Medicine campus at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in La Jolla.  The building’s exterior incorporates a combination of concrete, curtain wall, metal panels and terra cotta cladding.  The facility will encompass wet labs, open lab space, lab support and administrative support space on five stories above ground with core lab space and support, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems located in the basement.  Design features include computer-controlled exterior solar shading systems on the east, west and south facades, extensive reuse of water for landscape irrigation, as well as urinal and toilet flushing, and build-out of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to ensure optimum energy efficiency.  The project, which is targeting LEED Platinum certification is scheduled for completion in August 2013.

UCSD Biomed is designed by ZGF Architects, and the general contractor is McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.

Custom Components Company is supplying and installing custom design glass railing, stainless steel illuminated and non-illuminated handrail, aluminum beam and rafter cladding and aluminum sunshades and roof trellis to Benson Industries (Portland, OR).
